Arranging Services with Playable Parts
About Musician.ICU
Musician.ICU specializes in adapting existing works for band, orchestral, jazz, and chamber groups, both professional and educational. Adaptations range from simple changes to adjust for grade level and instrumentation, to adding missing parts, to creating brand new orchestrations and arrangements of classical and popular works.
Every project comes with my, "Within Our Reach" guarantee. Unlike with hastily put together arrangements that don't take into account your particular group's instrumentation, I personally guarantee that each performer will find their part playable. If any performers find a part out of their reach, I'll work with you to make updates at no charge.*
At the heart of my philosophy is "one part per performer," where each group member has a customized part with their actual name printed on it, instead of just an instrument and chair. Clients submit a roster with each member name, part and chair, and basic performance grade level. For educational groups, each student is given a survey and simple assessment to complete. Along with the final score, each group receives customized parts for each performer, in addition to a set of parts for general instrumentation without performer names.
The final product also includes etudes and exercises related to the keys and concepts in the work that we arranged together, both for the group and individual performers. To reach this level of detail and individualization, I follow a collaborative consulting and development process, where the performers as well as the group leader provide input.

All Projects are typeset and engraved in LilyPond open source software.
Final documents are sent in PDF and PostScript formats, along with MusicXML files that can be imported into music composition programs such as Finale or Sibelius.
Copyright Notices and Licenses
All arrangements, including the scores and individual parts, are owned by the group that employed my services. This is explicitly stated on each work, in the form of a © Copyright assigned to the group's name or preferred name, except where the originating work has an existing copyright that would prevent that.
All supplemental educational materials, etudes and exercises, including those that have been created specifically for the group or a group's individual member, are Copyrighted © by Beast.Vision Corp., under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Share and Share-Alike license. These materials may be freely used, including for commercial purposes, so long as the original work is properly credited, and others are not restricted from doing the same.
For Re-Instrumentation and Orchestration services of works that are under current copyright, the group must own an original print version of the full score and/or the majority of the parts. This applies to all types of groups.
For educational groups seeking a full Arrangement of an existing copyrighted work that has not been published in print format, such as a popular music song in audio format only, a special copyright notice will be issued on the music, crediting the original owner, and restricting its performance to educational purposes.
For professional groups seeking a full Arrangement of an existing copyrighted work, whether it has been published in print format or not, express written permission must be granted by the original owner before any consulting or work can begin. No exceptions may be made to this rule. A special copyright notice will be issued on the music, based on the terms agreed upon by the original copyright owner.
For projects where the entirety of the originating works are free from copyright and in the public domain, clients are given the option of selecting a more strict copyright assignment than the standard, giving the group more control and ownership of the final product. Musician.ICU strongly recommends utilizing works that are in the public domain. Project Gutenberg is a good source for recorded works. And the Mutopia Project is an excellent source for print works.
