Initial Consulting Services

All new clients are required to go through an initial consulting process before beginning on any individual projects.

This only needs to be done once for each ensemble. For educational programs with multiple formats of ensembles, this only needs to be done once by each program. The new client Intake Form should be completed before paying for consulting services.

Client Services

Client services are split into three categories: Re-Instrumentation, Orchestration and Arrangement. While there are components of each of these practices in almost every project, the division is made depending on how much original work must be produced.

For small to medium sized projects or recurring needs, most clients choose the pay-as-you-go option, where a flat weekly fee is charged regardless of the group size or the complexity of the work. Larger projects simply require more time from beginning to end.

The links below are for the pay-as-you-go options. Clients with large projects or strict deadlines should request a quote either during the initial consulting process, or by sending a secure message.

Re-Instrumentation includes shuffling instrumentation, adjusting grade levels, recreating missing parts, or any instrument-level adaptations to an existing work that is largely complete.

Orchestration includes adapting an existing written work to a different instrumentation, such as creating a large ensemble band or orchestra arrangement from a piano reduction of a classical work, or creating a chamber ensemble arrangement from a jazz standard. This is where the majority of projects fall.

Arrangement involves adapting an existing written or recorded work into a completely different performance medium. A common example would be adaptations of popular music songs for marching or jazz bands, chamber ensembles or educational programs. Generally a significant amount of new material must be produced. This would also involve any project where transcription from audio is required.

For individual performers, and any group where a single person is taking on payment responsibility, an additional income-based service option is available for Tiers I, II and III. The initial consulting fee is also based on income and is paid at the time of application. Note that the New Client Intake must still be completed.

Additional Services

Additional services for current clients include developing educational materials and exercise and etude programs, music library consulting, sheet music restoration, and archiving of recordings. These services and others can be discussed during intake or during final project review. Most of these services fall under tiers I or II, so clients who are currently on a pay-as-you go program for an individual project may simply continue after it is complete and request a different service.

Alternative Payment Methods

Current clients may also make payments with a house account with one of the three methods:

Payments are handled securely by BFI.Financial. All payments made by clients show up as charges for professional services to BFI PMT LLC or BFI.Financial.
